High school academies (also called career academies) use a professional field as a context to teach mastery of high school content. Research shows this approach simultaneously prepares a student for a career and for college, whatever the students’ choice.
Operation Magellan is the historic initiative taking career academies worldwide. Project New Hope Afghanistan, Project Opportunity in Uganda, and work in Great Britain, Croatia, Liberia and Cambodia all fall under the umbrella of “Magellan.”
